Inventories are one of the first steps associated with environmental assessments, plans or management strategies. They generally involve identifying the vegetation, wildlife and/or environmentally significant features found within a specified landscape. Inventories must often be conducted during very specific time frames (i.e. breeding bird season, summer flowering, etc.). As such, it is advisable to consider a project's inventory requirements as early as possible  in the planning / development process.
