Environmentally Sensitive Area Identification, Mapping & Management
Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) identification and mapping is the process of identifying distinct habitats and habitat features on the landscape and ranking them according to ecological community rarity, fragility and wildlife habitat values. ESA map products are typically based on largely available Sensitive Ecosystem Inventory (SEI) and/or Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) datasets. ESA designations provide managers with a method of identifying high value areas for conservation, while also accounting for site specific wildlife species of concern.
